Group News

Retirement of Norman Morris

Norman, our President and resident Musical Director has announced his retirement from the Group.  Receiving a standing ovation recently, Norman cited his recent health problems as the main reason for him standing down. He has guided the group musically from inception to be the successful group it is today.  We owe him and enormous deal of thanks and look forward to seeing him occasionally to help Geoff Horton out, who has now been officially installed as our new MD.  Geoff you are most welcome and we look forward to you carry on Norman's excellent work and maintaining our great reputation.

Producer for L'Elisir d'Amore 2009

We are pleased to announce that Eileen Pinkachevski has been selected to produce our July 2009 production of The Elixir of Love by Donizetti.

This is a comic opera along similar lines to Gilbert and Sullivan's
The Sorcerer and features the quack Doctor Dulcamara and his magic wine love potion.

OAB Social evening
This has been booked this year for Saturday November 22nd at Finchampstead Village Hall

Audience comment regarding The Magic Flute

" I would like to place on record how much we enjoyed "The Magic Flute".
The principals not only sounded wonderful but also looked the part- which is not always the case in professional opera.  The chorus were absolutely magnificent, performing with both accuracy and feeling.  An appropriate balance of comic and serious was maintained.  The 'empty pyramid' setting and the pink ibis (both highlighted on the programme) were touches of genius.  Thank you to each and every one who contributed to such an uplifting, enjoyable performance."

Audience comment on recent
New Year Opera Concert 2008
"The Supernatural in Opera"

"We always enjoy performances by Opera at Bearwood but found last night's concert to be particularly special. It was a wonderfully varied programme, some well-known and others
unfamiliar, but each item sung with feeling.
Outstanding, even among such an excellent cast, was Erica whose voice and performance was exquisite.  Jeff Trim deserves mention for saying just enough but not too much by way of
introductions, and all in a most pleasant
manner.
Keep up the good work, everyone!"
